Cat Doors > Microchip Cat Doors

Keep your cat safe with our Microchip Car Door.

Opening only with your cat’s identification chip, you can stop unwanted animals getting into your home, while giving your cat the freedom it deserves.

What is a Microchip Cat Door?

A microchip cat door is a small portal in a wall or door that allows your cat to enter and exit the building via an embedded microchip or a collar tag. A microchip cat door can be installed in doors, walls or windows. It recognises your cat’s microchip and will only open to microchip numbers that are stored in the cat door memory.

How does it work?

Secure access via your pet's microchip.

Microchip cat doors work on the same premise as having a key to open a door. With a cat door, a microchip is the key your cat uses to open the door. This works by using a unique identification microchip embedded into the cat which is programmed to be recognised by the cat door. If your cat has an existing microchip, you just need to program that with the door and it will work just as well. If your cat doesn't have a microchip at all, then a lightweight collar tag is available.

Easy connection into your home internet router.

After that, when the cat approaches the door, the sensor reads the chip. If it matches the stored number, the door will unlock. It is best to program the cat door before it is installed as this will prevent accidental programming of an unwanted cat.

Store your cat's microchip to the door.

The microchip cat door will run for up to 12 months on batteries. The LCD display screen on top of the cat door shows the battery level indicator and locking modes which can be set manually or automatically using the timer function.

LCD display indicates battery life and locking modes at a glance.

Microchip cat doors work when the hub is connected to a spare port on your home router, and act as the link between the pet door and the internet. The next step is programming which is easy to do. Simply press the memory button on the cat door and, when your cat comes close to it, its unique microchip identity will be stored into the memory.

Easily monitor you cat's movement and door settings via the Sure Petcare™ App.

Additionally, by using the Sure Petcare app, you'll be able to see when your cats come in and out of the house, even when you're away from home. The app also allows you to change your cat door settings remotely.

Benefits of a Microchip Cat Door.

Microchip cat doors provide safety and security for cats and their owners. At Sydney Pet Doors, the brand we prefer is Sureflap. Let’s look at the benefits of having a Sureflap microchip cat door.

Prevent strays from entering the house (no more tailgaters!).

An ordinary cat flap can open and close to any cat or animal that can fit through. Aggressive cats or pests can enter the house, cause damage or even attack your own cat. Even if they are not aggressive, feral cats can come into the home and eat your cat’s food. A microchip cat door will only open for your cat with a specific microchip.

Can pre-program times for cats to enter and leave.

With a microchip cat door, you can pre-program times that your cat can leave and enter the home. This will keep them safer as there may be certain times you do not want them outside, such as overnight due to curfews or environmental safety. It also ensures that your cat has a consistent routine to help prevent stress.

Monitor cats activities during the day.

If you want to keep track of what your cat does during the day, a microchip cat door can help with that. It allows you to know how often your cat went outside, at what times, and how long it was there for. If your cat suddenly stops going through the door as much, it may be a sign that something is wrong and perhaps it is feeling unwell. If your cat doesn’t come inside after many hours, that could also be a sign that something may have happened to it.

Cats don’t need a collar with a microchip.

Many cats do not like collars, so the fact you don’t need a collar for a microchip is a bonus. Collars can also fall off so you can rest assured that your cat will be safe and able to use the cat door without a collar. Your cat is never without its microchip so you don’t have to worry about it being able to enter and exit the home.

Can be fitted in all types of doors and windows.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find a place to install a cat door as each house and garden is different. The beauty of a microchip cat door is it can be installed into a fixed glass panel or timber doors.

The first step is to decide where you want your microchip cat door. Things to consider will be whether it  is installed in a glass or timber, and the location like the back or side of the home. Our friendly team will come by for a free quote and offer advice. We will measure the space and help you work out the best location for your new microchip cat door.

If the microchip cat door needs to be installed in a timber door, our experienced team will find the best solution for your home. We understand that the variety of timbers can require different installation skills and will cut a hole in the door to perfectly match the size of your cat.

At Sydney Pet Doors, we offer professional installation.

If a glass door installation is the preferred option, on the first visit we will measure, prepare and order the new glass. As glass needs to be replaced with custom made toughened safety glass, we will organise a glazier to prepare a new pre-cut pane to replace the existing glass, making sure the glass is cut in the right spot for your cat’s measurements. We cannot cut a hole into the existing glass as the glass will shatter.

Once the glazier has prepared the new pane of glass, we will organise a second visit and install the new glass and the microchip cat door.
